APPROACH

WORLD BUILDING

EXECUTION

One on one meetings with the series leads were pivotal. it was important to heave each principal cast member feel as embedded into the project as possible. After preparing mock ups of locations to costuming concepts everything is shown and collaborated with talent for them to get the best grasp on not just the material but the character themselves.
Second Chances started out as a three camera novella-adjacent project in development but became a single camera, on location drama. In order to catch the grit of real world problems alongside the heightened drama.
Camera movements are used to build added hope or anxiety in scenes. Push ins and static uses give or take away what the story calls for. Keeping the camera as a character but unnoticed was the principle goal in the story.

FATAL GAMES

Fatal Games is a limited murder mystery series about ten close friends at a remote getaway for a surprise engagement. When one is killed, their bond begins to break apart as secrets and true feelings are revealed.

The Series starred: Til Schweiger, Renan Pacheco, Chase Mattson, Bobby Slaski, Gracie Knight, Emma Kotos, Isaiah Locust, Matt Tang, Bella Azzata, Nova Gardner, and more.

Roberto was contracted to develop adapt and rewrite, and direct all episodes of the series. He was the head creative, finding ways to make the most of low budget and tight scheduling.

APPROACH

WORLD BUILDING

Fatal Games was about isolation heavily relying on the character's chemistry and mystery itself to carry the story. On location in what felt like an isolated setting in the Santa Clarita canyons without service was pivotal for the shoot.
The story called for a bonded cast. The primary goal in pre-production was to hold rehearsals, not only to have the material down but for them to build repertoire amongst one another. Isolated only select members of the cast with few knowing the true ending of the story until final days of filming.
The energy of the shoot was inverted with camera movement - tense situations were smooth and static while story building movements were handheld and frenetic to leave the audience with a sense of tension for the duration.
